11 Best Nursing Bras, Tested & Reviewed by Moms 2024

The best nursing bras help give new moms the freedom to whip out a breast at a moment’s notice to feed a very hungry baby. And, sorry, but your prepregnancy fave probably isn’t going to cut it, since breasts become heavier with increased blood volume, bodily fluids, and, of course, baby’s dinner, says New York–based doula and Motherfigure adviser Robin Douthit. They may also be more sensitive to materials like underwire and even excess padding.

Luckily, there are plenty of designs to choose from, like T-shirt bras with removable pads, moisture-wicking sports bras that you can pull down, lace bralettes with detachable nursing clips, and, yes, even a few with underwire if you just can’t quit it. We know too much choice can be overwhelming, especially if this is your first shot at motherhood and breastfeeding. So we went to women who have been there—15 moms (slash designers, writers, bloggers, podcast hosts, and chefs)—to find out which brands and bra styles worked best for them. (They also shared their favorite maternity underwear in case you’re looking for other intimates upgrades.)

Best Overall Nursing Bra: Bodily The Do Anything Bra

According to multiple testers, this bra really lives up to its name. “I wore this bra nearly every day throughout my one-plus-year nursing and pumping journey,” says Meg Kernahan, CondĂ© Nast senior manager of commerce partnerships, who highly recommends springing for the three-pack. “The fabric is really soft, and the hooks on the straps don’t dig into skin, making it super comfy to wear all day.”

It’s a versatile pick that can be used to breastfeed directly, or pump. “The design also allowed me to pump hands-free while I was working, eating, or anything else, which was a game changer for my pumping experience,” she says. “It holds the flanges securely in place, so I didn’t have any leaks, spills, or errors.” The straps can even convert to a racerback style for mamas who need a little bit more support.

Size ranges: S–3X / Materials: Polyamide, elastane

Pros: Available in a pack of three; comes in five colors; can be used for pumping or nursing; organic fabricCons: Sizes aren’t cup-specific.
