If you’re like us, you shop for a new bathing suit every season (because, somehow, last year’s doesn’t cut it). But finding the best tummy-control swimsuits is a struggle of its own kind. There are a ton of swimsuit brands to wade through (and many don’t offer the most size-inclusive options). You’ll want to look for bathing suits with design features like ruching, shirring, and compressive panels. They offer the same smoothing and support as your favorite shapewear and tummy-control jeans. To make your life easier, we searched for (and tested) everything from one-piece swimwear to bikinis that are chic, contouring, and—importantly—comfortable to wear. Below, we bring you the most stylish swimsuits for tummy control, vetted by Glamour editors.

“When shopping for a tummy-control bathing suit, it’s important to know that they’re designed to offer extra support, smoothing, and shaping around the midsection,” says Cami Raymond, senior design director of shapewear brand Ruby Ribbon. “A well-fitted swimsuit is more likely to offer effective tummy control, so look for swimsuits made from high-quality, durable materials like polyester and Lycra (or spandex) with a good amount of stretch—this will provide a comfortable fit and better support.”

As for certain designs, she suggests high-waist bottoms if you’re a fan of two-pieces; if you prefer one-piece suits, look for accents on the suit. “Suits that feature ruching or ruffles around the midsection are also design elements to be on the lookout for as they can help disguise any midsection insecurities and create a more flattering silhouette,” Raymond says.

How we chose tummy-control swimsuits

As Glamour shopping editors and writers, we’ve researched and tested so, so many swimsuits: bikinis, one-pieces, tankinis, swim shorts, swim dresses, thong bikinis—you name it. In this story you’ll find our favorite tummy-control swimsuits and tops for all needs and body types, according to Glamour editors and a swimsuit designer. We evaluated each suit on its level of compression (light, medium, strong, extra strong); comfort; design; material (particularly how substantial and smoothing it is); and overall style.

Miraclesuit Tummy-Control One-Piece Swimsuit

What we love: Underwire for bust support; compressive fabric; smoothingWorth noting: Sizes run small; underwire may not feel comfortable; priceyThis Miraclesuit one-piece is designed to sculpt, smooth, and support in all the right places. The brand’s signature tummy-control fabric provides firm yet comfortable compression without panels, helping to shape and define your silhouette without feeling too tight. The criss-cross surplice neckline enhances curves while offering a universally flattering fit, and its subtle underwire delivers extra lift and structure. Thoughtful ruching across the midsection creates a slimming effect (without going overboard), while the full-coverage bottom ensures you feel confident from every angle. Pro tip: Be sure to use the sizing chart, which takes into account your bust, waist, and hip measurements.

Sizes: 8-18| Material: Nylon, Lycra spandex | Colors: 27 | Padding: Yes (non-removable) | Compression: Strong

Smismivo Tummy-Control Halter One-Piece Swimsuit

What we love: Push-up top; ruching; compressive; full coverage; affordableWorth noting: Ruching can bunch up in the backThis is one of the best tummy-control swimsuits (on Amazon, no less). Its retro style swimsuit combines the powers of ruching along the belly with an adjustable halter top that offers added bust support, making it a great bathing suit for bigger boobs. It provides moderate coverage along the back, and the fabric is substantial and supportive thanks to its double-lining. It’s tough to beat this pick, especially with its price tag. Shoppers note that it’s a nice pick for older women, as well, as its draping helps hide the stomach, but the design still feels fresh and stylish.

Sizes: S–3X| Material: Nylon, spandex| Colors: 28 | Padding: Yes (removable) | Compression: Strong

Aqua Eve Tummy-Control Swimsuit

What we love: Push-up style; quick-drying; adjustable straps; affordableWorth noting: Not very cheeky along the bottom; limited plus sizingThis tummy-control swimsuit from Amazon is designed with figure-snatching features such as ruching and shirring to enhance your shape. The stretchy nylon-spandex blend hugs in all the right places without feeling too tight, while the adjustable straps and built-in padding provide just the right amount of support. “I had the bikini-top version of this suit and felt so supported,” says Glamour contributor Andrea Navarro. “This one-piece has the same effect, where it fits like a push-up bra but is comfortable enough to wear to go swimming and do other activities. My only gripe with this is that I wish the bottom was cheekier, but it’s a great option for those seeking more modest swimwear.” The gold hardware along the halter-neck adds a trendy touch.

Sizes: S–XXL | Material: Nylon, spandex | Colors: 9 | Padding: Yes (non-removable) | Compression: Medium
