2024 Heisman Watch: Cam Ward tops leaderboard, Travis Hunter on the rise

Week 9 of the college football season was filled with plenty of standout performances, including a pair of quarterbacks who now sit atop the Heisman leaderboard.

While Miami QB Cam Ward and Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel both had big moments on Saturday, it was Colorado’s Travis Hunter who stole the show with an impressive outing in the Buffaloes’ 34-23 win over Cincinnati.

While Hunter saw his Heisman stock rise, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty saw his stock take a hit after the Broncos’ narrow 29-24 win over UNLV on Friday night.

Here is a look at the current Heisman Trophy odds following a jam-packed Week 9:

Cam Ward, QB, Miami (Fla.): +230

Ward didn’t throw a touchdown pass in Miami’s 36-14 win over Florida State on Saturday … but he caught one! The Hurricanes’ talented signal-caller threw for 208 yards and caught a 7-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter as the Hurricanes cruised to a victory over the Seminoles to keep their undefeated season alive.

Dillon Gabriel, QB, Oregon: +250

Gabriel put on a passing clinic in Oregon’s dominant 38-9 win over Illinois. The talented lefty signal-caller completed 18 of 26 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns through the air, while also adding a rushing score. Gabriel entered the day in the No. 3 slot on the Heisman leaderboard, but after his near-flawless showing, he moved up to second on the list. Through eight games, Gabriel has completed 76% of his passes for 2,371 yards and 18 passing touchdowns.

Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado: +380

Hunter was electric in Colorado’s 34-23 win over Cincinnati, hauling in a team-high nine catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Hunter also starred on the defensive side of the ball, playing in all but three snaps in the game.

Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State: +425

Jeanty didn’t put up the type of jaw-dropping numbers fans have all become accustomed to seeing, but the Broncos’ star back was at his best when his team needed him most. Trailing UNLV 24-23 heading into the fourth quarter, Jeanty and the Broncos put together an impressive eight-play, 75-yard drive, which was capped by a 1-yard touchdown run from Jeanty and turned out to be the game-winning score as Boise State improved to 6-1 overall and kept their College Football Playoff hopes alive. Jeanty finished the game with 128 rushing yards and that touchdown. He has topped the 100-yard rushing mark in every game this season.

Cade Klubnik, QB, Clemson: +2000

Klubnik and the Tigers had a bye this weekend following the team’s 48-31 win over Virginia last weekend. The Tigers’ junior signal-caller was phenomenal in that game, completing 23 of his 35 attempts for 308 yards and three touchdowns. All three of Klubnik’s TD passes came in the second half, including a 40-yarder to tight end Olsen Patt-Henry that broke the game open for the Tigers in the third quarter.

Carson Beck, QB, Georgia: +3500

Beck and the Bulldogs had a bye this weekend following the team’s impressive 30-15 win over then-No. 1-ranked Texas last week. Beck completed 23 of 41 passes for 175 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions in the victory over Texas. Through seven games this season, Beck has thrown for 1,993 yards, 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
