2024 Oyo State Governor’s Cup: Kick-off, venue, everything you need to know

The eagerly anticipated Oyo State Governor’s Cup is set to kick off a thrilling journey through the heart of grassroots football, in a bid to reignite the hunger for sports among the youth and revive the glory days of school sports, Soccernet.ng reports.

Sponsored by Peculiar Ultimate Concerns and organized in collaboration with the Schools Sports Foundation and the Oyo State Government, this competition will showcase talent, and passion among the students.

Key Details

Kick-off Date: The competition starts with Local Government Eliminations from May 13th to 22nd, 2024.

Venue: Matches will be held at various venues across Oyo State. Two of the Cup’s quarterfinal clashes will be held at Ikolaba High School, and Loyola College will as well host the other two matches. Then the Semi-final as well as the final will be held at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

The Driving Force Behind the Competition

Coach Yomi Elijah, CEO of Kidzfoot Nigeria and Schools’ Sports, leads this initiative. With a wealth of experience from coaching esteemed clubs like ABS FC and Remo Stars, Coach Elijah aims to discover raw talent from the streets and reignite the passion for school sports in Oyo State.

Local Government Eliminations

The action-packed journey commences with Local Government Eliminations, scheduled to take place from May 13th to 22nd, 2024. During this phase, teams from various public schools will battle it out for supremacy.

Zonal Showdown

Following the Local Government stage, the competition intensifies with Zonal Eliminations from May 28th to 31st, 2024. Representing eight distinct zones within the state, including Oyo, Ogbomoso I, Ibadan I, Ibadan II, Ibadan III, Ibarapa, Oke–Ogun I, and Oke–Ogun II, teams will vie for a coveted spot in the next round.

Governor’s Cup Semi-Finals and Finals

As the competition heats up, the Governor’s Cup Semi-Finals will take place at the famous Lekan Salami Stadium on June 7th, 2024.

The excitement continues with the Third Place and Finals on June 8th and 9th, 2024, respectively. The highly anticipated Final match is tentatively set for June 10th, 2024. With so much at stake, teams will give their all to win.
