What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?
I’ve always had a love for football, being raised in a football household it was kind of a no brainer that it’s what I’d be doing in the future. But what made me really want to continue playing football is just the love for the game. I love the adrenaline you feel during the game.
What are your favorite moments from your football life?
My favorite moment from my football life was my game against Gannon University, it was the drive after I had just got knocked out and they forced an interception, the offensive coordinator asked us what play we think would work out there and we agreed poster (the play that’ll get me the ball). We were down by 6 points and this touchdown would really determine the winner since the game was low scoring and slow paced and I got behind the whole defense and Moo Moo our QB got the ball to me on the run. Beautiful moment!
Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?
Honest answer is all of them each of them have supported me every step of the way during my college career. But the guy I aim to impress at the games is my dad, I love hearing him brag about me after a great game but even more I love to hear the corrections he offers after the bad games.
What are you looking forward to in your upcoming season?
This year I look forward to seeing how far I’ve come and how much better I can be with my new weight I recently was putting on muscle weight to prepare myself for the upcoming season I was 159lbs going into the spring I’m now sitting at 178lbs so I’m excited to see how that will help. I also look forward to pushing myself to being an All American and seeing my team get a national championship which has be long anticipated and overdue.
If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day, who and why?
I would want to hang out with DeVonta Smith, because we’re both about the same size and I love his style I think he has an incredible mindset and story and would love for it to rub off on me to shape me in to a Super Bowl receiver like him.
What are your favorite things about playing football for Charleston?
My favorite things about playing football for Charleston is the community and brotherhood of our team. We worked hard to form this culture of player driven team and it has led to a little success these last two years but the good thing about us is we aren’t satisfied yet we want more and that’s the National Championship.
What should we know about Marquan Herron the person?
Honestly I am a simple man I love watching Anime with my girlfriend, I play the game on weekends to spend that time with family, I recently picked up on playing golf and pickle ball which is a little more difficult then I was led to believe. I’m a 3.4 computer science major student for my undergrad years and I’m currently taking my masters in cyber security.
What is your favorite offensive scheme and why?
My favorite scheme is any of our RPO plays because I love our QB feeling comfortable and having time to deliver us the ball and they have been extremely successful these last couple years due to how powerful our run game is.
How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?
When I’m faced with a challenge too big for me to handle I lean on the Lord for guidance and support because I know he’s always there and he always has the answer. I don’t really get stressed or overwhelmed by a lot of things because I know in due time I’ll handle it or it’ll play out how it is supposed to.
What would a team get in a player like you?
If a team had a player like me they would get a powerful weapon that isn’t just speed and ability but also intelligent on and off the field. I think my most beneficial weapon on the field is my brain and how I am to read the play before the snap of the ball and during the play of progression as things are bound to change or be disguised.
What stands out about your film the most?
I think what stands out the most about my film would be even though I’m not the tallest or the biggest on the field if I go up for a 50/50 ball it’s really a 80/20 ball because I’m most likely the one coming down with it as well as my ability to get behind the defense.
Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?
Most underrated player I played with is my QB Javonte Howard they wouldn’t play him because they said he didn’t have the arm strength but once he got the chance to prove himself he became a two time All American in the MEC conference and played a huge part in my 12 touchdown season my junior year.
