Sony Pictures’ work on 28 Years Later is raging on, as Ralph Fiennes, Jodie Comer, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson have all signed on to join Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s post-apocalyptic follow-up, according to Deadline.
The site says that the three stars are now attached to the first of what is meant to be a new three-movie run for the franchise. Details on their roles remain under wraps for now.

Fiennes is best known for his roles in The Grand Budapest Hotel and Schindler’s List, but also made a name for himself as an intimidating head chef in The Menu and with his portrayal of Lord Voldemort in Warner Bros. Harry Potter movies. Taylor-Johnson has appeared in numerous superhero films, including 2010’s Kick-Ass, its sequel, and Avengers: Age of Ultron, but he’s also allegedly the leading candidate to take over as James Bond. Comer has spent a fair amount of time in AMC’s Killing Eve but also appeared in Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel and the Ryan Reynolds-led video game movie, Free Guy.
28 Years Later seeks to bring the three stars together to tell a story written by Garland and directed by Boyle. However, the trio is only locked in for the first installment, making it unclear if they’ll return for future films. A second movie in what could be a 28 Year Later trilogy is already greenlit, with The Marvels’ Nia DaCosta said to be the top pick to direct it. The plan is to shoot both films back-to-back.
Work on 28 Years Later has steadily progressed since word that a follow-up was on the way emerged earlier this year. Boyle and Garland, in addition to their directing and writing duties, are attached to produce alongside Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, and Bernie Bellew. Original 28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy is also on board as an executive producer, though it’s unclear if he’ll return as an actor as well.
