49ers HC: Ricky Pearsall ‘Getting a Lot Healthier’ After Being Shot, Timeline TBD

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is “getting a lot healthier” as he continues to recover from being shot in August, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

During Wednesday’s media availability, Shanahan told reporters the rookie “seems great” but declined to give a specific timeline for when he might make his debut.

When Pearsall was shot during an attempted robbery, the bullet missed any organs, and he reportedly didn’t require any surgery to repair the wound.

General manager John Lynch said on Sept. 3 he expected to see the 6’3″ pass-catcher play at some point this year. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Week 5 was tentatively targeted for his return.

The 49ers placed Pearsall on the non-football injury list ahead of their opener, which ruled him out for their first four games at a minimum. San Francisco’s clash with the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 6 would be the first time he’s eligible to suit up.

Before the shooting, the first-round draft pick’s offseason had been disrupted due to the recurrence of a shoulder issue that predated his arrival in the Bay Area. That along with a hamstring injury kept him out of the Niners’ three preseason games.
