Eight  persons, including mourners, who were returning from a funeral, died in a tragic crash on the Berekum-Sunyani Highway, in the Bono Region.

They were confirmed dead in the accident which occurred at the Amanfoso portion of the highway.

Ms Abigail Atinpoka, the Bono Regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), confirmed the tragedy, saying the bodies: five males and three females, had been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital mortuary.

She told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the crash involved a Toyota Corolla taxicab with registration number AS 4819-17 and another vehicle with registration number GN 5753-12.

Ms Atinpoka said the driver lost control of the vehicle carrying mourners from Dormaa-Ahenkro to Sunyani.
