Who it’s best for: Someone who lives with pets, in a smaller space, and who perhaps has hardwood and carpetingThis Dyson vacuum deal is pretty epic and one of the lowest prices we’ve seen—it’s currently 40% off its original price. The V8 Absolute is very similar to the V7 Advanced, with the same size, charge, run time (40 minutes), amount of suction power, and touch-free dust-bin emptying. It’s only ever-so-slightly heavier (5.82 pounds versus 5.58 pounds), but its dust canister is larger, which means you’ll empty it less frequently. The main difference is in the number of accessories you’ll receive—a crevice tool for tight corners, and a head that lies flatter to the ground and sucks up more dust on hardwood floors, for instance.

“I think it’s pretty interchangeable with the Dyson V7. It’s more expensive, but it nets you more accessories, as well as a docking station that lets you charge it directly on the wall (I have one of these, and it’s a far more superior experience than having to plug and unplug your vacuum all the time),” says Griggs.

It was my starter Dyson vacuum, and I now recommend it to all my friends. Let me count the ways why it’s so, so good (especially for someone who lives in a one-bedroom apartment with not one but two cats),” says Griggs. “The V7 is cordless (no tripping over cords), has powerful suction (something I took for granted using competitor stick vacuums), and is extremely lightweight and easy to maneuver into corners and under furniture, thanks to its omni-glide technology and how it seamlessly transforms into a handheld vacuum. I owned it for three years and wound up vacuuming my apartment every day (the vac lasts 40 minutes on a charge). It really goes to town on my pets’ hair with its hair-screw attachment head. I ended up giving it to a friend so I could upgrade to the more intense Dyson V12 Detect Slim (which is $330 off), but the V7 was still in perfect shape. Frequently asked questions

What is the main difference between Dyson model names?

There are a ton of different Dyson vacuum (and even hair-tool) models and qualifiers that follow their names, such as Absolute, Plus, Animal, and Extra. If you get tripped up on these words, that’s understandable. These naming conventions almost always have to do with the attachments that are included. Any name with Absolute following it usually includes the highest number of attachments, while a Plus comes with a smaller number. The attachments can be useful if you’re trying to clean a variety of spaces, like in a house (that crevice tool, for instance, gets into tough nooks and crannies; the soft brush tool is excellent for dusting surfaces you don’t want to scratch). If you’re trying to clean a smaller, simpler space, having all those attachments on hand may not be necessary. Slim usually refers to the vacuum being lightweight.

What is Dyson’s return policy?

Dyson products can be returned within 30 days of receipt for a full refund, with shipping costs covered by the company. However, if purchased through third-party retailers like Walmart or Amazon, the return policy will follow their guidelines. Walmart allows returns within 90 days, and refurbished items generally have a 30-day window. At Amazon, most returns fall under its standard 30-day policy.

What is Dyson’s warranty?

Dyson offers a two-year warranty on cordless vacuums, fans, heaters, humidifiers, and hair tools purchased from the company directly; its five-year warranty applies to corded vacuums, hand dryers, and lights. This covers repair and replacement if your product breaks within the warranty window. If you’re buying through a third-party retailer, be sure that the seller is authorized, and hold on to your receipt because you’ll need proof of ownership when you try to register through Dyson.

Not as far as I can find. Dyson does sometimes run trade-in events where you can take 20% off select tech when you trade in a vacuum, hair care tool, fan, or purifier of any brand. It similarly has Owner Rewards events where existing owners can apply a promo code to another Dyson product. As far as an official trade-in policy, however, the answer is technically no, they do not.
