Imagine coming home from school one day, only to discover that your mother is secretly married to the leader of the Triads. Even worse! She’s cutting up a dead body with a drill—and assassins are after both of you. Well, if anything, it’s the setup for the new Netflix action-comedy, The Brother’s Sun. The series is anchored by Michelle Yeoh as “Mama Sun,” the matriarch of the powerful gangster family who has to clean up the mess while protecting her two sons.
The oldest child, Charles, is a killer training in his father’s footsteps—while Bruce, the youngest, is completely oblivious to his family’s past. The two haven’t seen each other for quite some time, and there’s a lot of catching up to do in between various beatdowns and kidnappings. But the mystery of who is behind the attack takes some time to unravel over The Brother’s Sun eight episodes, as we meet love interests, rival gangs vying for power, and a seemingly endless supply of hitmen.
What Happens in The Brother’s Sun Finale?Well, it turns out that Bruce’s love interest, Grace, really isn’t into improv comedy. Shocker? I knew it was too good to be true. She wants revenge after the Triads killed her father, targeting the lead Sun family. The Triads are, after all, a violent criminal organization! After an assassination attempt on Big Sun in the beginning of the series, the families all convene to elect a new head. But the party is interrupted by a flurry of gunfire from all sides—including the police. The Suns make it out alive, of course, but it doesn’t end there.
Their father orders Charles to kill Bruce in from of their mother, but the leader’s son refuses. Big Sun sends an assassin to finish the job instead, and Mama Sun chokes them with a phone cord in a motel room. After Bruce finally confronts his father about his misdeeds, he shoots him—inflicting a flesh wound—and has the cops arrest him at the hospital. “We want to take the audience on a wild and sometimes uncomfortable ride, but our intention is for people to finish the show and be smiling,” creators Byron Wu and Brad Falchuk told Netflix. Now free, the Sun family can choose to forge their own path.
Charles doesn’t want to be an assassin. He just wants to make churros and watch The Great British Baking Show.

Mama Sun becomes the new head of the family crime business back in Taiwan, where new leadership will come with new challenges. Big Sun’s right-hand man, Yuan, is planning his next move. According to the streamer, a potential second season would continue to explore the Sun family’s unresolved history. “The end of the season is a happy moment for the family, but when you’re living as a gangster, you can never truly relax,” the creators teased. “And Big Sun is not an enemy that accepts defeat easily.”
