Tiger Woods and Nike have agreed to part ways after 27 years together.

On Monday (Jan. 8), the legendary golfer took to social media to make the announcement. While he didn’t announce what would be next for him, Woods mentioned that another “chapter” was on the way.

“Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world,” Woods typed. “The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories, if I started naming them, I could go on forever. Phil Knight’s passion and vision brought this Nike and Nike Golf partnership together and I want to personally thank him, along with the Nike employees and incredible athletes I have had the pleasure of working with along the way.

“People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will certaintly be another chapter. See you in LA,” he concluded, alluding to his next appearance at Los Angeles’ Genesis at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades in February 2024.

Nike also released an official statement on social media. The Oregon-based company showered Woods with love as they wished him well on his next chapter. Their post also included a shot of the golfer wearing his iconic Nike outfit.

“Tiger, you challenged your competition, stereotypes, conventions, [and] the old school way of thinking. You challenged the entire institution of golf. You challenged us. And most of all, yourself. And for that challenge, we’re grateful.”

When Tiger turned pro in August 1996, Nike and Woods were joined at the hip. Since then, every appearance he made on the green featured the athlete donning the Swoosh in his iconic red and Black ensemble. The partnership spanning two decades included 82 PGA Tour wins, 15 major championship wins, and many historic moments.

According to The Oregonian, Nike and Tiger agreed to renew their contract three times throughout the partnership. The latest renewal occurred in 2013, set for $200 million for ten years. However, after Nike shuttered its golf line in 2016, the icon began using TaylorMade and Bridgestone equipment on the green.
