When you’re just starting in LEGO Fortnite, generally you wouldn’t have issues fighting off small spiders and skeletons to gather materials as they’re quite weak. However, at one point, you will need to search for rarer materials to either upgrade your Crafting Station or Village Hub, forcing you to explore dangerous caves and biomes in this game mode.

When that day comes, you wouldn’t want to be storming in there with just three hearts you’d have from the start. The monsters you’ll find there are more aggressive, and if you’d like to avoid dying and dropping your entire inventory on the ground, it’s important to use armor as an extra layer of protection.

How to Make Armor in LEGO Fortnite

The way armor works in LEGO Fortnite is a bit different than most similar survival games. Instead of making physical armor you can wear for your character, armor in this mode can be crafted in the form of charms and totems, which increases your character’s hearts and gives them more resistance. Once crafted, you can then equip the charm or totem by dragging it to your ‘armor’ slot.

Crafting armor requires you to head to your Crafting Station and select the shield-like icon. There, you’ll find loads of items that can boost your character’s defensive capabilities, from Health Charms to Hearty Totems. You’ll also find options to craft shields for your character, although this doesn’t exactly increase your hearts, it’s also a useful item to have during explorations.
