Arsenal working on surprise deal for La Liga forward

Arsenal return to action when they face London rivals Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Gunners started the season in fine form but have struggled of late, with Mikel Arteta’s side having won just one of their last five Premier League matches.

Arteta will be hoping to see his side return to winning ways against the Eagles, who themselves have also struggled of late.

In the meantime, it appears that Arsenal are plotting a surprise late move for a La Liga forward this month.

As per Football Insider, Arsenal are considering a move for Getafe star Borja Mayoral.

The 26-year-old has scored an impressive 14 goals in 22 games across all competitions so far this season, as well as providing one assist.

Mayoral is said to be a target for Arsenal

Mayoral joined Getafe from fellow Spanish side Real Madrid in the summer of 2022, having previously spent time at AS Roma, Levante, and Wolfsburg.

In total the forward has scored 29 goals in 78 games for Getafe, and the report claims that Arteta is keen to sign the player this month.

Arsenal reportedly had an offer for the Spaniard rejected last summer, and Arsenal instead signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea.

It is also claimed that Arsenal previously showed an interest in the player last summer, and are now considering revisiting a potential move as Mayoral now has a release clause active in his current contract.

Despite scoring an impressive 16 goals in 31 games for Spain at under-21 level, Mayoral has never been capped by his country at senior level.
