UFC commentator Laura Sanko gets trapped in snowstorm and narrowly avoids dangerous avalanche

Fan favourite UFC commentator Laura Sanko is currently trapped in Colorado after narrowly avoiding a dangerous avalanche.

Sanko enjoyed a great year in 2023 as she became the UFC’s first-ever female colour commentator of the modern era at UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivak.

The 41-year-old made a small slice of history again during her pay-per-view commentary debut at UFC 293 in September.

UFC CEO Dana White was so impressed by her performance during Sean Strickland’s middleweight title win over Israel Adesanya he compared Sanko to MMA legend Ronda Rousey.

Sanko is hoping to take things to the next level in 2024 but has instead started her new year by getting snowed in by a storm in Colorado.

The former MMA fighter initially tried to make the most of the situation as she put on a bikini and filmed a fun video for her Instagram followers.

“We are making lemons out of lemonade here,” Sanko said with a drink in her hand.

“Actually, this is helping. Not Happy Dad, Happy Mum.

“We are trapped in Colorado. It is freaking freezing here! We can’t leave for the next two days.”

Sanko added a caption that fully explained her current situation.

It read: “Drove for an hour in insane conditions only to have the mountain pass close.

“Turned around and by some miracle made it back to the house. Had to dig through the trash for all the food we threw out when we left.

“We are stuck here for another 48 hours…but we have a case of Happy Dad and a hot tub and we will eventually get home. Guess I’ll post my quarterly thirst trap.”

Later, Sanko shared a news clip detailing the avalanche in Colorado and expressed gratitude after making it back to her accommodation safely.

She wrote: “This happened right after we turned around. Thank goodness we made it back!

“Now the question is how quickly can they clear the avalanche and re-open the pass?”

On Monday, Sanko returned to social media with an update for her fans, but she appeared to be much less upbeat about the situation.

“Let me show you what we are dealing with here,” she said.

“I don’t know how you can tell how tall this snow is compared to me, but it’s up to my shoulder. We are never getting home.”
