Rangers ‘probably’ closer to adding to squad

Rangers return to domestic action away to Dumbarton on Saturday eveningRangers are “probably” closer to recruiting more players, says manager Philippe Clement.

The Belgian, whose Viaplay Cup winners return to domestic action at Dumbarton in Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie, has signed Wolves forward Fabio Silva on loan this month.

Clement insists he has no players “jumping to leave the building” amid speculation around Ridvan Yilmaz.

“We will see if it’s one or more,” he said on potential signings.

“Did we progress? Probably yes, because there have been longer talks, more talks. Does it mean that we’re at the end of the road? No, because there is nobody who’s signed yet.

“I’m not going to discuss every player there is rumours about. I’ve read the most crazy things the last couple of weeks already. There’s always a lot of rumour, noise.

“I know the January transfer market, it’s always special and you need to be prepared for everything and it’s what we’re going to do.

“It’s always a challenging period and I’m always it’s happy when it’s 1 February, that there’s a clear plan, that there’s clear squad.”

“If he was not committed then he would not have played [in the friendly matches] against Hertha or Copenhagen,” Clement said of the 22-year-old. “He’s committed to the club and what he has to do here.

“We will see, I know what the situation is. Until now I don’t have from any player here the feeling that they are jumping to leave the building. I feel that everybody’s really involved in the club, in what’s going on here.

“But it doesn’t mean that tomorrow that can’t start. I know how fast things can go. I will select players who are committed to the club.”

Clement revealed midfielder Kieran Dowell “will be out for a while” after picking up an injury during the recent training camp in Spain.

Meanwhile, forward Danilo, who has been missing since early December, is scheduled to return “the last weeks of the season”. Defender Ben Davies is, however, nearer to a comeback following an ankle issue.
