Unraveling Solo Leveling Episode 2: A Dive into the Mind-Bending Ending

In the first episode of Solo Leveling, we see Sung Jinwoo and his party in a life-or-death situation after they enter the hall at the end of the tunnel.

In the second episode, Sung helps the party by following the commandments on one of the temple walls.

Only our beloved protagonist remained at last and was on the verge of dying by the statues when a screen popped up that said, “asking him to either accept or decline to become a’ Player ‘.”

Many fans, including me, were confused by this ending and wondered what that meant. To seek answers for which I couldn’t wait, I read the manga up until the next episode, and here’s what I found.

1. Solo Leveling Episode 2 Ending Explained

Before the final flame extinguished and one of the statues attacked Sung, a log appeared before him. The log states that he has cleared ‘The Secret Quest,’ and “Courage Of The Weak” and that he is now qualified to become a “Player.” 

It tells him he has two seconds to accept the offer. Otherwise, he’ll die. The episode ends with Sung getting the offer.

After choosing to become a player, we see Sung Jinwoo in a hospital 3 days later with his body fully recovered. 

The log in front of Jinwoo is known as the ‘System.’ The System can select players and bestow quests like a video game.

2. The System

Just like a video game, The System provided Jinwoo with system quests that offered unique rewards, a leveling system with different skills and stats, an unlimited inventory in which Jinwoo could store all sorts of magical items, and even an in-built store offering items for the in-game gold currency that Jinwoo obtained every time he killed an enemy in battle.

Upon completing the quest, the player levels up, grows more robust and gains new abilities, which is impossible in the real world as the amount of magic power a hunter possesses is decided and cannot be increased or decreased, no matter what method.

Failing to complete the quest within the given time limit leads to the player (Sung) receiving a penalty in which he is teleported to a desert and must survive for four hours.

The System tried to keep him alive as best as possible, automatically activating his passive skills whenever needed.

It gave him quests to slaughter his enemies whenever he was up against an opponent trying to kill him to make him level up faster. The System would even warn him of the slightest murderous intent in his vicinity, ensuring Sung Jinwoo lives.

Solo Leveling is a Korean Webtoon written by Chu Gong and illustrated by Jang Sung Rak. It is adapted from the web novel; I Alone Level Up. Kakaopage publishes it in South Korea and Piccoma in Japan. The series ended in December 2021 and has been collected into 14 volumes.
