Snl24 | Vini Jr deletes viral reaction to Bafana’s goal celebration

Teboho Mokoena performed the Cristiano Ronaldo ‘sleep’ celebration, causing a huge reaction on social media.

Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior now reportedly deleted his reaction to Bafana Bafana’s Cristiano Ronaldo-inspired celebration after they beat Morocco at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The story

South Africa are making headlines across the world after they stunned tournament favourites Morocco on Tuesday night, eliminating the number one-ranked CAF nation with a 2-0 win.

It was indeed an action-packed affair, particularly in the second half, as Evidence Mokgopa scored the opener in the 57th minute before Morocco were handed a lifeline in 82nd minute via a penalty.

Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi missed from the spot in the 85th minute and South Africa’s Mokoena put the final nail in the coffin through a fabulous freekick which resulted from a Sofyan Amrabat red-card in stoppage time for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. 

However, the Mamelodi Sundowns star’s celebration to the goal would lead to a widespread reaction after he was joined by his teammates as he did Ronaldo’s ‘sleep’ celebration. 

Various press and social media outlets jumped onto the celebration, with some even highlighting the irony that it was Morocco who dumped Ronaldo’s Portugal out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals.

Vinicius, who has long admitted that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is his idol, reacted to Mokoena and co’s viral celebration on X (formerly Twitter), commenting: “We all love CR7.”

However, the Brazilian winger now appears to have strangely deleted the tweet. Nevertheless, it seems that AFCON is increasingly drawing the eyes of high profile players in Europe, with FC Barcelona’s Jules Kounde having already recently tweeted about the tournament. 

Last week, the France international wrote: “I really like this CAN.”
