Wales debutant in tears during national anthem before Six Nations debut Scotland

Making your international debut is a hugely emotional moment, just ask Wales star Cameron Winnett.

The 21-year-old was handed his senior debut for Wales in their Six Nations opener with Scotland at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff and was dead-set on conquering the occasion.

Winnett plays as a full-back for United Championship Rugby side Cardiff and was handed the number 15 jersey by head coach Warren Gatland for the clash.

However Winnett’s emotions got the better of him as he belted out the Welsh national anthem – Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau – with his teammates before the match.

As the camera panned towards him, fans could see the tears in the youngster’s eyes as his pride shone through.

In a day and age when patriotism can be lost in elite-level sport, Winnett’s show of emotion was warmly met by fans on social media who loved seeing how much the occasion meant to him.

Unfortunately for Wales, it was a game that ended in the most gut-wrenching defeat.

After going 27-0 down to Scotland, Gatland’s side fought back to 27-26, knowing that just two more points would have seen them earn the biggest comeback in Six Nations history.

However it was Scotland who came away victorious, picking up their first win in Cardiff since 2002.
