Author John Green confirms the production of his next movie adaptation, ‘Turtles All the Way Down’ as it receives a streaming platform and a release window.
John Green is best known for his work, ‘The Fault in Our Stars,’ which quickly climbed atop the bestseller list and was adapted into a commercially successful film in 2014.
Green’s 2017 novel ‘Turtles all the Way Down’ will be his fifth YA book to be adapted into a film.
In an Instagram post, the author shares the news of his book’s adaptation, getting a concrete release window and a streaming home.
Although the film has been in development since 2017, Green comments that it is always difficult to predict whether a movie will make it all the way. However, the author confirms that the film will be released on Max at any point this year!
The film rights were acquired by Fox 2000 in 2017, and Temple Hill Entertainment was set to produce it. It is the same production house that made ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ and ‘Paper Towns.’
The film’s production team was quickly formed, with ‘After Everything’ maker Hannah Marks chosen to helm the direct and ‘This Is Us’ co-showrunners Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker at the helm of penning the screenplay.
By 2022, the film’s cast was finalized. ‘The Last of Us’ season 2’s Isabela Merced and ‘Ginny and Georgia’s’ Felix Mallard were chosen as the lead characters Aza and Davis, respectively.
In addition, Cree Cicchino will appear as Aza’s friend, Daisy, while Director Marks will play Holly, a waitress at the Applebees Restaurant. Other prominent cast members include Judy Reyes, Maliq Johnson, J. Smith-Cameron, and Poorna Jagannathan.
Now that the film has found a distributor in Max, we can expect a trailer and a release date very soon. Storywise, the film will focus on Aza, a high school student who has extreme anxiety and OCD. She develops a connection with a guy called Davis, and the two set out to find his billionaire fugitive father.
The canon novel received a lot of critical acclaim for accurately portraying the adverse effects of anxiety and OCD. Therefore, we can expect the film to carry forward the mission of raising awareness for mental health issues.

Turtles All the Way Down is an upcoming American romantic drama film based on the 2017 novel of the same name by John Green. The film is directed by Hannah Marks from a screenplay by Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker, and stars Isabela Merced.
The story centers on a 16-year-old with obsessive–compulsive disorder who pursues the disappearance of a billionaire.
The film was first announced in December 2017 and will be released by New Line Cinema on the streaming service max later in 2024 after years in development hell.
