Snl24 | ‘Chiefs Need A Striker Who Scores Goals For A Living’

Kaizer Chiefs surprisingly didn’t go into the market during the January Transfer Window, unlike both their rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Former Amakhosi defender Thomas Sweswe speaks to Soccer Laduma in an exclusive interview on how Chiefs should have signed a striker in January.

Based in England now, Sweswe believes the other departments in the Chiefs squad are well balanced.

“I don’t think the team is doing too badly. Since coach Cavin Johnson took over, the performances have improved but I still think they need a striker. One that can score goals for a living. They have all the other departments well balanced but the striking department has not been doing very well,” Sweswe told the Siya crew.

“So I hoped that in January they would look at that department and bring in a top finisher to ease the pressure on the other strikers in the team. That’s what we really needed in January,” Sweswe observed.

Despite not fulfilling this objective, Sweswe believes Chiefs can still compete for at least a CAF Champions League spot at the end of the season.

“What is needed now is consistency in the remaining games in the league and to make sure we finish in the top two and qualify for Africa. That’s very important for the team to be playing in Africa every season. And for them to qualify for that they need to be consistent whether against the so-called small teams or big teams.

“Every game matters now and the second round is even tougher than the first to me so they have to work hard and win games,” Sweswe concluded.

Amakhosi’s next encounter is on 13 February against TS Galaxy at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
