Habeeb Ogunneye: Meet England-born Nigeria-eligible teenager named in Manchester United squad to face Nottingham Forest

Habeeb Ogunneye signed his first professional deal with Manchester United in 2022 and has been a regular for the club’s U-21 side

Manchester United Academy player, Habeeb Ogunneye, has been included in the senior team’s squad to face Nottingham Forest in their FA Cup clash tonight, Soccernet.ng reports.

With Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lisandro Martínez, and Luke Shaw injured, the youngster has been called into the team to possibly give Erik Ten Haag more options in the full-back position.

Who is Habeeb Ogunneye?

Born in London on the 12th of November, 2005, Ogunneye is a right-back who has played through the ranks at the Manchester United academy so far in his career.

He made his debut for the U-18 team in 2021, at the age of fifteen, and signed his first professional contract a year later, and he is currently playing for the club’s U-21 side under the tutelage of Travis Binnion.

Habeeb can also play as a wing-back, as he likes to join the attack and help his team on the offensive side of things.

The 18-year-old made his England U-17 debut in 2021 and has three appearances for the Three Lions in total, but he also has Nigerian roots and could wear the jersey of the Super Eagles in the future.

Ogunneye played in the UEFA Youth League for the Red Devils last season in a 2-1 victory over Young Boys and has three assists in thirty-six appearances for Manchester United’s U-21 team.

It is unknown if Habeeb will make his debut for the club tonight, but with Sergio Reguilon’s loan spell cut short in January and Tyrell Malacia suffering from a recurrent knee injury, Manchester United will want to avoid any injuries to Diogo Dalot or Victor Lindelof to worsen their already thin squad further.
