Nuno Espirito Santo goes on extraordinary ‘why always us?’ rant after Nottingham Forest defeat

Nuno Espirito Santo was left dumbfounded by VAR yet again after Nottingham Forest lost to Brighton on Sunday.

Forest were downed 1-0 by Brighton with an own goal from Andrew Omobamidele all that separated the two sides on Sunday.

But Nuno was left furious at full-time at what has been perceived as yet another error from VAR.

Forest players and coaches were left shocked when Jakub Moder escaped a red card at the Amex Stadium after a poor challenge on Neco Williams.

In the 67th minute, Moder received a yellow card but could have been sent off after lunging in on Williams and catching him on the ankle.

But Nuno fumed in his post-match press conference, telling Sky Sports: “Again we are going to send a letter to them and they apologise.

“It is a red card. It is week after week I am trying to avoid… but you go back to the dressing room and see us as professionals… week after week. Week after week.

“What is going on? Someone wants to put us down? We received the referees they apologise, they make mistakes. VAR stops the game, it is a clear red card. It is week after week. That is enough.

Nottingham Forest have been on the end of some controversial calls this season, not least last week when Liverpool claimed a last-gasp win.

With time running out, Darwin Nunez planted a header in to hand all three points to the Reds but Forest were incandescent that they were given a drop-ball at the other end of the pitch in the build-up.

Referee Paul Tierney was then not given refereeing duties on the pitch in the Premier League for this weekend’s matches.

When speaking of Newcastle, Nuno was possibly referring to an incident that saw Taiwo Awoniyi race through on goal before being felled by Martin Dubravka but a penalty was not awarded with the scores at 2-2.

Newcastle went on to score a winner through Bruno Guimaraes, though this was not without controversy either as Dan Burn barged into the back of Nicolas Dominguez as he went to make a challenge.

Forest find themselves 17th in the Premier League with a huge clash up next in Luton Town, who are a place below them three points behind.

Nuno has overseen just one win in 11 games after taking over from Steve Cooper in December.
