Door opens for Spurs to sign Chelsea star

Chelsea battled to a crucial 3-2 win over Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening.

The two sides went into the game in 11th and tenth place in the Premier League table respectively, and Nicolas Jackson put the hosts ahead early on.

The Magpies then drew level through Alexander Isak, before Cole Palmer put the Blues back in front.

Substitute Mykhaylo Mudryk then extended Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s lead, before a stunning late strike from Jacob Murphy set up a nervy final few minutes for the hosts.

Despite the win, Chelsea remain 11th in the top flight standings, although they do have a game in hand over several clubs above them.

Off the pitch, though, the Blues could soon sell one of their key players despite him being a regular in the first team.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea could sell Conor Gallagher this summer despite the wishes of Pochettino.

Gallagher faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge

The midfielder has ben heavily linked with a move to rivals Tottenham Hotspur for several months now, and the report claims that the door has now opened for the Lilywhites to move for the Englishman.

Gallagher, 24, broke into the first team at Chelsea at the start of last season and has now made more than 80 appearances for the club across all competitions.

The academy graduate has also captained his boyhood club on several occasions this term and has established himself as a key player under Pochettino.

Despite this, the report claims that those in charge of the club may go against Pochettino’s wishes and sell the England international this summer, in order to appease their financial concerns.

It has previously been reported that talks between the club and the player over a contract extension have completely stalled due to Chelsea’s inability to meet Gallagher’s demands.
