The Miami Dolphins hope to sign wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. after a Thursday meeting with the free agent “went well,” according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Jackson noted that Beckham and the Dolphins need to “agree on a price.”

Barry Jackson @flasportsbuzzPer team source, the Dolphins’ meeting with Odell Beckham Jr. went well today. Team pleased how meeting went. Miami hopes to sign him. We’ll see if they agree on a price.

Beckham is a free agent after finishing out a one-year, $15 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens.

The market value of his next contract is pegged at one year and $11.9 million, per Spotrac.

After missing the 2022 season with a torn ACL, Beckham hauled in 35 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns in 2023.

The news follows Jackson’s Wednesday report that “at least one high-ranking member of the Dolphins organization would like to add an accomplished third receiver to complement [Tyreek] Hill and [Jaylen] Waddle and give Tua Tagovailoa another weapon.”

Hill led the NFL with 1,799 yards last season, while Waddle was right behind with his third consecutive 1,000-yard season.

In order to keep this star duo as healthy as possible while both battled injuries in 2023, the Dolphins were “intentional” about limiting snap counts for Hill and Waddle throughout the season, according to Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald.

Both Hill and Waddle marked career-low snap offense snap rates of below 69 percent last season, Oyefusi noted.

Playing as a secondary (or in this case, tertiary) target behind a star receiver is a familiar role for Beckham. He served as the Raven’s No. 2 target behind star rookie receiver Zay Flowers last season.

The Dolphins have already upgraded the team’s passing game by signing tight end Jonnu Smith in March. Smith recorded a career-high 50 catches and 582 receiving yards for the Atlanta Falcons last season.

Miami will also have the option to add a receiver with the No. 21 pick of the upcoming NFL draft. LSU wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., who helped quarterback Jayden Daniels win the 2023 Heisman Trophy, is projected by some mock drafts to be available by the time the Dolphins pick.

In case Thomas is selected before the Dolphins get the chance to pick, however, the team might choose to go with the surer bet with a veteran free agent like Beckham if they can work out a deal.
