Angel Reese’s double-double helped lift LSU to a 70-60 victory over Rice in the first round of the 2024 NCAA tournament on Friday.

The win was far from easy for the defending national champions, as head coach Kim Mulkey’s team held a narrow 30-27 advantage at halftime. The lead was cut to just two points in the third quarter, although LSU was able to pull away.

Rice came within six points during the fourth quarter as well, but a jumper from sophomore guard Flau’jae Johnson as well as a pair of free throws from senior Last-Tear Poa helped put the game away.

Reese was unstoppable on the glass, pulling down 19 rebounds. Although the 2024 SEC Player of the Year shot just 1-7 from the field, she connected on eight of her 12 free-throw attempts to finish with 10 points.

Fans were impressed with her strong performance on both ends of the court, as she added one block and three steals.
