Kate Middleton and Prince William Have a New Message for the Public Following Her Cancer Diagnosis

Kate Middleton and Prince William are “moved” by the public’s response to the Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnosis.

On March 23, a Kensington Palace spokesperson passed on the royal couple’s gratitude for the “kind messages” the Wales family has received following Middleton’s recent medical revelation. “The Prince and Princess are both enormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the U.K., across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal Highness’ message,” the statement said, per People. “They are extremely moved by the public’s warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time.”

The palace remained relatively quiet about the princess’ health since announcing that the 42-year-old mother of three underwent a “planned abdominal surgery” in January. Between some vague updates, confusion about her scheduled appearances, and a perplexing photo-editing scandal, many on the internet turned to conspiracy theories before the princess shared her personal message on March 22.

“In January I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time it was thought that my condition was noncancerous,” Middleton said, in part. “The surgery was successful; however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I’m now in the early stages of that treatment.”

The Princess of Wales explained that she’d been taking time to process the news and explain her diagnosis to her children before speaking to the public. “As I’ve said to them, I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal in my mind, body, and spirits,” she said in her video. “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support, and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”

Kate Middleton concluded her message by asking for “time, space, and privacy” as she continues her cancer treatments. “My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I’m able but for now I must focus on making a full recovery,” she said. “At this time I’m also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”
