New Gran Turismo 7 Update Will See A Series Legend Return

It’s that time of the month again, with Gran Turismo 7 set for another update this week. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has once again taken to X (once known as Twitter) to share teasers of a trio of cars coming to the game – and a legend of the series is set for a return.

The keen-eyed among you will be able to easily pick out which cars are coming from the thinly veiled silhouettes, while the rest of us can scroll through the replies to see what the most accurate predictions are.

It seems there’s no doubt over the car in the bottom right of the 15-second animation, which is all but certainly a Toyota GT-One. Known by its chassis code TS020, the GT-One competed at Le Mans in 1998 and 1999, finishing the latter second overall and first in the LMGTP class.

It looks to be the ‘99 car that is appearing based on a very quick glance of a chevron on the boxy rear wing. The GT-One had been a staple of the Gran Turismo series, debuting in Gran Turismo 2 and appearing in every title before its absence from 2017’s Sport. It’ll bolster GT7s tantalising list of ‘90s Le Mans racers, including the Mazda 787B, McLaren F1 GTR and Mercedes CLK-LM.

We’ll give it 10 minutes before someone has this ’98 livery made

To the left of the TS020 appears to be the latest version of the Audi R8. Based on a glimpse of its rear wing, it looks to be the R8 V10 Performance rather than the run-out GT. Unmistakable is the sound of its 5.2-litre V10, thanks to Yamauchi-san including a clip of each car’s revs for the first time in his traditional set of teasers.

It’s the first time a second-gen R8 road car has appeared in GT7

Rounding out the trio of additions is GT7’s first performance-focused SUV, the Lamborghini Urus. We’re expecting this to be a base version of the car as opposed to the 657bhp Performante, but we’d bet on some bodywork modifications being possible to make the already garish SUV look similar to the range-topper.

The Urus will be GT7’s first performance-focused SUV

Other inclusions in the new update, expected to be version 1.44, are as of yet unclear. We’ll hope for a new track, as it’s been a few months since any new locations have found their way into the game, but that remains to be seen. Expect the new update to arrive on Thursday, 28 March.
