The Magpies’ FA Cup dream ended with a quarter-final loss to holders Manchester City two weekends ago, while the Irons were pegged back in a 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa.

Goals on rival territory have been particularly difficult for West Ham to come by in recent times, and a fresh concern with the fitness of Kudus will do the Irons no favours whatsoever in that regard.

The international hiatus arrived at an opportune time for a Newcastle side who appeared rather leggy in their FA Cup exit, and while they may be reeling from Botman’s devastating blow, we have faith in Howe’s men to return to triumphant ways thanks to their knack for scoring at St James’ Park.

After drawing a blank in a frustrating loss to Man United last time out, Everton will hope to have more luck in the final third this weekend against a Bournemouth side that have kept only two clean sheets across their last 12 Premier League matches.

Nevertheless, the Cherries have had few problems scoring at the right end of the pitch in recent weeks and we can see Iraola’s men claiming at least a share of the spoils from an entertaining contest at the Vitality Stadium.

Chelsea vs. Burnley (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Chelsea will endeavour to boost their hopes of securing European football for next season when they welcome relegation-threatened Burnley to Stamford Bridge for a Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams meet for the first time since October last year when the West Londoners cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Clarets at Turf Moor.

Keeping a free-scoring Chelsea side quiet should prove challenging for Burnley, who will likely feel the absence of in-form Blues loanee Fofana and must rely on others to step up in the final third if they are to pull off an upset.

Despite their unpredictability and leaky backline, Chelsea will be regarded as firm favourites for Saturday’s contest and victory over Burnley should get the ball rolling for the European-chasing Blues ahead of an important encounter with Man United next week.

The Blades came away from Bournemouth’s turf with a praiseworthy 2-2 draw three weeks ago, before the Cottagers hit a lacklustre Tottenham Hotspur for three without reply.

The first international break of 2024 certainly came at a better time for Sheffield United as opposed to a Fulham side riding the crest of a wave, but the Blades’ recent home failures make for incredibly worrying reading, and their defensive concerns remain alive and well.

Fulham’s exploits on their travels have left much to be desired throughout the season too, but with seven-goal hitman Muniz fit and firing, we have faith in the visitors to emerge victorious and accelerate their hosts’ return to the Championship.

A Tottenham Hotspur side intending to rise above a desired dotted line host a Luton Town outfit bidding to steer clear of dreaded dotted line in Saturday’s Premier League showdown in North London.

Ange Postecoglou’s men produced one of their worst displays of the season in a 3-0 loss to Fulham two weekends ago, while the Hatters snatched a 1-1 draw versus Nottingham Forest.

We say: Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 Luton Town
Luton’s penchant for goals has not evaporated in spite of their devastating injury catastrophe, and faced with a Spurs crop who lack the recipe for defensive success at home, the visitors ought to give the away end something to cheer.

However, the odd consolation goal will likely prove meaningless in the grand scheme of things, as a Tottenham side fresh from a much-needed two-week reset should bounce back from their Fulham humiliation with a resounding triumph, one which would be enough to take them into the top four for at least a couple of hours.

Saturday night’s Premier League offering comes from the Gtech Community Stadium, as an under-performing Brentford host top-four outsiders Manchester United.

The Bees entered the international break reeling from a 2-1 loss to demotion rivals Burnley, while the Red Devils emerged triumphant from an absorbing FA Cup quarter-final with Liverpool.

We say: Brentford 1-2 Manchester United
Despite their concerning predicament, Brentford are seldom kept at bay on their own patch, and a fully-fit attacking contingent of Mbeumo, Ivan Toney and Yoane Wissa should ask a few questions of an injury-hit Red Devils backline.

However, Frank is working with severely limited options in defence himself, and we can only picture Ten Hag’s troops picking up where they left off before the international break with another one-goal win – 12 of their 15 Premier League victories in 2023-24 have been by that narrow margin.
