Rihanna Steps Out Wearing Two Vintage Gems
Rihanna is no stranger to rocking vintage. When it comes to her personal style, the singerâs wardrobe is filled to the brim with priceless archival gemsâbe it Chanel faux fur jackets, retro sports jerseys, or Galliano-era Dior saddle bags. She is the queen of reviving pieces from past decades and making them feel entirely fresh. Case in point: This weekend in L.A., the star hit the town in an all-black look that included two vintage gems. And theyâre both from the â90sâone of her favorite reference points in fashion.
On Friday night, Rihanna stepped out for dinner in a black velvet double-breasted coat with a shaggy trim by Vivienne Westwood. Per @rihannastyleguide, the coatâwhich is very Penny Laneâis from the labelâs fall 1992 collection. She paired it with a pair of Miaou lace-up pants and Tom Ford accessories such as her acetate sunglasses and stilettos. But it was her choice of handbag that was another â90s score: She carried Fendiâs fall 1999 cow-print bag in pink and brown, designed by Karl Lagerfeld. Given the current country music (and style) revival we’re having thanks to stars like BeyoncĂ©, the western-style bag is beyond appropriate and on trend. But the whole outfit is proof that Rihanna can pluck items from virtually any decade and it will always feel modern and fresh. That’s simply the Riri effect.
