Film Financier Great Point Media Appoints Administrators Following Death of Founder Jim Reeve
Screen finance company Great Point Media has appointed administrators following the death of its founder, Jim Reeve
Great Point Media, which was founded by Reeve and Robert Halmi in 2013, has invested in films including âAsteroid City,â âLady Macbethâ and âBlue Jean,â among other projects. Its last available accounts, filed in Jan. 2023, reported a turnover of ÂŁ20 million ($25 million).
Halmi stepped down from the company in 2018, although stayed on as as non-exec chair at Reeveâs request, before going on to found a separate entity called Great Point Studios.
At the time of his death, Reeve was the majority shareholder in Great Point Media. His shareholding transferred to his wife, Laura, an agent for film and TV crew, following his sudden death in February at the age of 64. Reeveâs cause of death has not been disclosed.
Reeve was senior investment director at the Ingenious Group before founding Great Point media. He clocked up over 120 credits as producer or exec producer over the course of his career, including Stephen Fryâs adaptation of âBright Young Thingsâ and âThe Wedding Date.â
âIt is with profound sadness that Great Point must confront the sudden and unexpected loss of our founder, mentor and friend, Jim Reeve, who passed away on Tuesday February 27, 2024,â the Great Point team said at the time. âJim had a storied career in the entertainment business spanning 40 years, and his passing will be mourned by a great many. Our thoughts are with Jimâs family most of all during this incredibly difficult time.â
Great Point Media reps declined to comment on the future of the company.
