IRONMAN Pro Series: Taylor tops the table following IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside win
Watch Potter, Brownlee & Beaugrand LIVE
In typical dominant fashion, Taylor Knibb reclaimed her IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside title on Saturday and topped the brand new IRONMAN Pro Series rankings in the process.
Such was her domination, only 12 other athletes finished close enough to score points for the series, with the rest unable to finish inside the 41 minute and 40 seconds window behind Knibb.
In our rundown of the rankings, find out who occupies the top spots and where the best in the world stand heading into the second race of the series at IRONMAN Texas on April 27.
How do the rankings work?
In this year’s brand new series, the points awarded at each race are determined by the event distance and winner’s finishing time. For the first placed athlete, a middle distance win is worth 2,500 points and a full distance race worth 5,000 points.
In Oceanside, Knibb earned the maximum 2,500 points, with each athlete behind her receiving a score based on the system that awards points for their individual finish time relative to the event winner.
For every second an athlete finishes behind first place, their tally diminishes by one point. In Oceanside for example, EPB received 1,846 points after finishing 654 seconds (+10:54) behind Knibb.
