The Los Angeles Lakers managed to pick up a 123-120 win over the Memphis Grizzlies Friday night after huge nights from LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

James had 37 points, nine rebounds and five assists while Davis put up 36 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. James had the final six points for the Lakers to put the game away and avoid an embarrassing loss in the final week of the season.

While Lakers fans are happy to walk away with a win, the game was concerning for a number of reasons. The Grizzlies are one of the worst teams in the Western Conference and were missing most of their starters. Still, it took a big night from James and Davis to get the win.

After the game, NBA fans trolled Los Angeles for having to count on James and Davis in what should have been an easy win:

Daniel Starkand @DStarkandLeBron and AD are having great games and it has been absolutely necessary to beat the G League Grizzlies.

Mike🦁 @LonerMike_It took Lebron and AD to drop 30 a piece to be up by 3 against da Grizzlies wit 13 players injured

Candice✨#2024 Lakers in 5 🏆✨ 🌚 @MisandrySportsLebron and AD both gotta get about 40pts to beat THIS Grizzlies team, but we’re doing something in the playoffs?? Idk it’s all looking pretty sus.

MD @dumbipiLeBron and AD combined for 70 and they’re barely up against this G-league team. They’re so cooked 😭😭😭

moh. @MOHUNNlDLeBron and AD have no business playing 40+ mins against an extremely undermanned grizzlies this is unacceptable

Dave McMenamin @mctenLeBron James has scored the Lakers’ last six points — including a double-pump reverse dunk in his 41st minute — to give LAL a 123-118 lead with 5.2 seconds to go.

Dr. Rajpal Brar, DPT @3cbPerformanceOne of the worst Laker wins I’ve ever seen. Took 36 & 36 from Bron & AD to squeak out a win vs the Grizzlies. Dlo has been quite poor over the last 3 games. #Lakers

Jovan Buha @jovanbuhaFinal: Lakers 123, Grizzlies 120

This was as ugly and concerning as a win could be at this stage of the season. But LA held on and improves to 46-35 to keep their goal of moving into the 7-8 game alive. AD had 36/14/5. LeBron had 37/10/5.

Up next: at the Pelicans on Sunday.

With the win, the Lakers improve to 46-35 on the year and move into eighth place in the West. While Los Angeles can’t avoid the play-in tournament at this point, it can still move into the No. 7 vs. No. 8-seed game and potentially have to play just one play-in game.

The Lakers will close out the season with a matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday.
