Amazon Music Launches Flagship Playlist ‘Bonfire’ with ‘Country Music That’s Smoky, Wistful, and Warm’

Amazon Music announces the launch of ‘bonfire,’ a genre-blending flagship playlist that focuses on ‘country music that’s smoky, wistful, and warm.’Though not tied to a specific genre, “bonfire” aims to be a first-of-its-kind home for fans of contemporary storytellers like Zach Bryan, Hozier, Kacey Musgraves, boygenius, Lainey Wilson, and Chris Stapleton. The playlist is a mood-based genre-blending collection of music that’s “emotive, elemental, and outdoorsy.”

“We created ‘bonfire’ because Amazon Music customers have consistently sought out this music. This playlist will feature emotive, songwriting-forward tracks that fit a vibe that’s sentimental, woody, and crackling with fire,” said Emily Cohen, country programming lead for Amazon Music. “We know our customers love this music, and with ‘bonfire’ we’re making it easier for fans to find and for artists to nurture the artist community that’s pioneering this sound.”

For the launch of “bonfire,” Amazon Music has recruited critically acclaimed songwriter Charles Wesley Godwin to record an Amazon Music Original cover of Gordon Lightfoot’s classic hit, “Sundown,” exclusive to Amazon Music.“I believe Gordon to have been one of the greatest songwriters of our time and felt this opportunity with Amazon Music was perfect to shine a light on one of his most popular songs a little over 50 years after its original release date,” said Charles Wesley Godwin. “Hopefully, through this version that me and the guys recorded, a new generation of music listeners can be introduced to Gordon’s music and become fans of his themselves.”

Godwin will also debut the cover live at Stagecoach Festival on Sunday, April 28. Fans worldwide can watch the performance on the festival’s livestream on Amazon Music’s channel, both on Twitch and Prime Video.

In addition to his own headline dates this summer, Godwin will open for Luke Combs on his 2024 stadium tour. Godwin will also make his festival debut at some of the biggest live events, including Bonnaroo, Stagecoach, and Bourbon & Beyond.
