Atalanta may have blown away Liverpool at Anfield with a 3-0 win in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg on Thursday night, but they were far from their best on Monday after as they threw away a two-goal lead in their Serie A match against Verona, with the game ending in a 2-2 draw. Atalanta threw away a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw with Verona in Serie A on Monday night.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side put on a scintillating display to beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg match on Thursday night, but they were far from their best against relegation-threatened Verona.

Atalanta took an early two-goal lead in the match with Gianluca Scamacca opening the scoring with a fine volley in the 13th minute before Ederson extended their lead five minutes later with a tidy finish.

The hosts continued to dominate possession and had the majority of the chances in the first half, but Verona came back in the second with two quickfire goals of their own.

In the 56th minute, Darko Lazovic scored from 20 yards out to get his first goal since October 2023 before Tijjani Noslin scored with a header four minutes later as he met Fabien Centonze’s cross.

Substitute Aleksei Miranchuk and Emil Holm both missed good chances late on for the hosts, who have now won just one of their last six Serie A fixtures.

Earlier in the evening, Fiorentina played out a 1-1 draw with Genoa.

Andrea Belotti thought he had opened the scoring for the hosts in the 25th minute, but it was ruled out by VAR as he strayed narrowly offside.

Genoa took the lead from the penalty spot through Albert Gudmundsson in the 42nd minute after Pietro Terracciano was tripped up by Fabiano Parisi in the box.

A much-changed Fiorentina side, who drew 0-0 with Czech Republic’s Viktoria Plzen in their UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final first leg on Thursday night, did get an equaliser shortly after the break.

Jonathan Ikone nodded in Giacomo Bonaventura’s cross at the back post in the 54th minute to level the match.

Genoa looked like they were to be awarded another penalty late on as referee Davide Di Marco believed Michael Kayode brought down Mateo Retegui at a corner, but his decision was overturned after consulting with VAR and the pitchside monitor.
