James McCartney and Sean Ono Lennon, the youngest children of the legendary Beatles musicians, have come together for their first Lennon-McCartney collaboration, ‘Primrose Hill.’There’s a new Lennon-McCartney song, but this time, it’s from the sons of the Beatles legends. James McCartney, the youngest child and only son of Sir Paul McCartney, has released a new track called “Primrose Hill,” co-written with Sean Ono Lennon, the youngest son of the late John Lennon.
The acoustic ballad, named for an idyllic park in Camden overlooking London’s Regent’s Park, was inspired by a vision the young McCartney had as a child on a summer day in Scotland.
“Letting go, I saw my true love and savior in my mind’s eye. ‘Primrose Hill’ is about getting the ball rolling with me and finding this person,” he wrote on social media. “Today, I am very excited to share my latest song, co-written by my good friend Sean Ono Lennon. With the release of this song, it feels like we’re really getting the ball rolling, and I am so excited to continue to share music with you.”
James McCartney and Sean Ono Lennon have also announced a contest to coincide with the song’s release, asking their listeners to submit a video with their partner that captures love in a romantic location.“Couples should be seen enjoying each other’s company, engaging in activities, and listening to James McCartney’s song ‘Primrose Hill,’” reads the contest description. Winning couples will have an opportunity to star in an official “Primrose Hill” music video, as well as scoring swag and exclusive merch, signed albums, or personalized messages from James McCartney.
Like any supportive father, Sir Paul has made sure to share the track across his social media accounts, as well as sending “lots of love to Sean Ono Lennon, who co-wrote the song.”
Sean Ono Lennon is the younger son of the late John Lennon, and his only child with artist Yoko Ono. James is Paul McCartney’s son and youngest child with his late first wife, Linda McCartney.
“Primrose Hill” is James McCartney’s first collaboration with Lennon, and his second release this year, following “Beautiful” in February, his first new music since his second album in 2016. His newer releases are distributed by earthprogram, the industry firm founded by A&R vets and identical twins Jason Jordan and Joel T. Jordan, in a distribution and IP protection collaboration with Virgin Music.
So what’s next for the Beatles’ progeny? Well, probably just more solo music, although McCartney hasn’t ruled out collaborations with other Beatles kids. In 2012, he teased in an interview with the BBC that he’d entertained the idea of forming a “next generation” of the Beatles alongside Lennon, Zak Starkey, and Dhani Harrison, the musician sons of Ringo Starr and the late George Harrison.
But whether anything like that will ever come to fruition — or even just another track co-written with Sean Ono Lennon — remains to be seen.
