The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame reveals the names of 16 artists who will be inducted in 2024, including Cher, Dionne Warwick, Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, and more.This yearâs inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame make up a diverse list spanning R&B and rock pioneers from the â70s through the â90s, with surprising names like Cher, Dionne Warwick, and Jimmy Buffett, who had never before received nominations.
Jimmy Buffettâs death less than a year ago put the Rock Hall committee in a presumably sentimental mood, fast-tracking the father of yacht rock into a non-voted category for musical excellence. Other artists in this category who had never received votes in the other categories include Dionne Warwick and MC5, the latter of whom had been nominated six times in the past.
The inductees in the âperformerâ category are those selected by the ballot sent out to voters following the announcement of the 15 nominees on February 10. The remaining seven nominees this year â Mariah Carey, Sade, Sinead OâConnor, Janeâs Addiction, Oasis, Lenny Kravitz, and the duo Eric B. and Rakim â will have to wait for another opportunity to be inducted.
Notably, Cher, who had never received a nomination, has expressed as recently as December her ire toward the Hall of Fame, leaving fans wondering how she will react to her upcoming induction. The star told Kelly Clarkson during an appearance on her talk show that âI wouldnât be in it now if they gave me a million dollars â Iâm never going to change my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.â
Aside from Cher, four of this yearâs other inductees to be voted in were first-time nominees, including Ozzy Osbourne, Peter Frampton, Foreigner, and Kool & The Gang.
