Arsenal vs Chelsea live score, result, updates, stats, lineups as Cole Palmer misses out for Pochettino’s men
Arsenal returned to winning ways in the Premier League at Wolves over the weekend and Mikel Arteta’s men will look to apply further pressure in the title race when they host Chelsea.
The Gunners were stunned by a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa in their previous home game, a result that handed the initiative to Manchester City.
However, the champions are not in action until they travel to Brighton on Thursday. Liverpool are level on points with Arsenal and face Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday.
Despite an uneven season that took another wrong turn as they lost 1-0 to City in the FA Cup semifinals on Saturday, Chelsea remain in the hunt for European qualification and are unbeaten in their past eight Premier League games (W4, D4).
The Sporting News is following Arsenal vs. Chelsea live, providing score updates, commentary and highlights as they happen.

Arsenal vs Chelsea live updates, highlights, and commentary
15 mins before kickoff: Chelsea won the Champions League in 2021. It’s easy to forget given all the that’s happened since, most notably an almost-total turnover of the playing squad. The man who scored the winner against Manchester City that night in Porto, Kai Havertz, leads the Arsenal attack tonight. Earlier this season, he seemed to have fallen into his Chelsea problem of no one really knowing his best role. But playing as a centre-forward with license to drop deep, he’s helped Arsenal’s array of creative talent to shine and is now Arteta’s first choice ahead of Gabriel Jesus for most of the big games.

25 mins before kickoff: it’s a big night for a couple of the forwards on show tonight. If all had gone to plan during the January 2023 transfer window, Mykhailo Mudryk would be turning out for Arsenal tonight. Instead, Chelsea blew the Gunners’ bid out of the water and an as-yet difficult spell in west London for the Ukraine winger. Mikel Arteta picked up Leandro Trossard for a fraction of the price and it is hard to argue he has been anything other than far more effective.
Mudryk was on the scoresheet when he overhit a cross in the reverse fixture but now would be as good a time as any for him to belatedly demonstrate what all the fuss was about.
55 mins before kickoff: Thomas Partey comes into the Arsenal midfield alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, meaning Kai Havertz is pushed back into the centre-forward position. Takehiro Tomiyasu is in at left-back.

1 hour before kickoff: The teams are in and Palmer has not made it for Chelsea. That’s a huge blow for the visitors, who field a front three of Mykhailo Mudryk, Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke. Malo Gusto is another key absentee, meaning a start for homegrown youngster Alfie Gilchrist at right-back.

1 hr 20 mins before kickoff: Confirmed team news will be with us in 20 minutes and all eyes will be on whether Cole Palmer has made it for Chelsea. The attacking midfielder has been a revelation since moving to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City in August and his 20 goals have him level with Erling Haaland at the top of the Premier League scoring charts. The 21-year-old is a doubt due to illness but Pochettino believe playing without Palmer could lay down a significant challenge to his players.
âIt is a good challenge in case Palmer is not available,â he said. âItâs a good challenge for the teammates. If I am a teammate of Cole Palmer in his position or a similar position, I am going to be motivated to go there tomorrow and show this is Chelsea Football Club, not Cole Palmer Football Club.â
1 hr 40 mins before kickoff: Chelsea have already put a dent in Arsenal’s title hopes this season and it could have been worse for the Gunners. A penalty from Cole Palmer (more on him a little bit later) and an early second-half effort from Mykhailo Mudryk had the Blues 2-0 up at Stamford Bridge until Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard salvaged a point inside the final quarter of an hour.

2 hrs 10 mins before kickoff: As a former Tottenham manager and current Chelsea boss, it’s unlikely there’ll be much kind sentiment reserved for Pochettino inside Emirates Stadium tonight. But his opposite number reserved some warm words at yesterday’s pre-match press conference. Arteta was a young player making his way at Paris Saint-Germain when he and then-Argentina international defender Pochettino were team-mates for 18 months.
“He doesn’t like it but to me, he was like a father,” Arteta said. “He took me under his arm, gave me incredible advice and really protected me. I really learned a lot in those two years with him, from there we maintained a relationship. I admire him a lot for what he has done in his career.”
2 hrs 40 mins before kickoff: Arsenal have been burned often enough in this fixture over the past couple of decades. Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea ramming six past them to ruin Arsene Wenger’s 1,000th game in 2014 stands out. But the Gunners are the stable, upwardly mobile club going for the sort of prizes Chelsea have become distant from. On the other hand, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are unbeaten in their past eight games, have acquitted themselves pretty well in games against other “big six” teams this season and will fancy their chances.
