Americans Abroad Player of the Week: Paxten Aaronson

It hasn’t been a memorable season for Dutch side Vitesse but Sunday will go down as one of the enjoyable moments for Paxten Aaronson and his teammates.

Aaronson registered a brace in a 3-2 home triumph over Fortuna Sittard, earning SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder logged 90 minutes, scoring twice on three shots on target, and winning six duels. Aaronson opened the scoring in the 22nd minute before delivering the eventual winning goal in the 76th minute.

Although Vitesse has already been guaranteed relegation at season’s end, Sunday’s home win will go down as a positive moment for the club. Aaronson, 20, now has four goals during his loan spell in Holland.

Here is a look at some of the other top Americans Abroad performers from this past week:

Josh Sargent

The goals continued for Josh Sargent on Saturday at Carrow Road.

Sargent delivered his 16th league goal as the Canaries earned a 2-2 draw with Swansea City. The U.S. men’s national team forward has helped Norwich City remain in the promotion race in the EFL Championship and manager David Wagner will hope for more goals in Saturday’s season finale.

Emmanuel Sabbi

Emmanuel Sabbi excelled for Le Havre on Friday as the club earned a 3-3 draw with league-leaders PSG.

Sabbi assisted once in a 90-minute performance as Le Havre snapped its two-match losing streak. The 26-year-old winger won six duels, made five interceptions, and set up Christopher Operi for the opening goal of the match.

Sabbi now has five goals and one assist this season for Le Havre.

Yunus Musah

Could Sergino Dest’s injury force Yunus Musah into the right back role for the USMNT? We shall see.

Musah played 82 minutes at right back on Saturday as AC Milan tied Juventus 0-0 in Turin. The 21-year-old completed 91% of his passes, won seven duels, and made six recoveries.

Musah’s versatility has continued to be on display in Stefano Pioli’s squad this spring and a right back debut might be what opens a new role for him going forward.

Dante Polvara

Aberdeen earned a crucial home win on Saturday with Dante Polvara excelling in midfield.

Polvara led all players in duels won (13), fouls drawn (4), and dribbles completed (3) as Aberdeen defeated Motherwell 1-0. The 23-year-old has forced his way back into the squad in recent weeks and stepped up big time at Pittodrie in a must-win match.

What did you think of these individual performances this past week? Was there anyone left off the list that you would’ve added?
