Ipswich players poke fun at Don Goodman’s ‘mid-table’ jibe and Leeds United as promotion parade gets underway

Ipswich’s players had a special message for Don Goodman during their promotion parade celebrations.

The Tractor Boys ploughed their way to the Premier League as Championship runners-up behind Leicester on Saturday, beating Huddersfield 2-0 to return to the top flight for the first time since 2002.

But amidst all the excitement, one man appears to still be on the mind’s of Ipswich’s players – Leeds-born Sky Sports pundit and former striker Goodman.

And now, one of the Tractor Boys stars has had his say on what he made of his comments.

A viral clip posted on X shows Ipswich star Luke Woolfenden being interviewed by Sky Sports on Monday as the squad prepared for their open bus tour around the town.

When the mic eventually returns to Woolfenden, the reporter continues to ask him about wanting Manchester United on the first day of the season.

“Yeah, United at home, my dad’s Manchester based so I’ll take United at home,” he said.

Woolfenden was then quizzed on what Ipswich can achieve in the Premier League. However, the defender had other things on his mind.

“Don Goodman… apparently we’re still going to finish mid-table but Don, don’t worry about it.”

Before he could finish his point, he burst into a smile as Jackson jumped back in to sing about Leeds once again.

Picking up from where he left off, Woolfenden continued: “But no, this group can do whatever we want man. We worked so hard. This group can do anything.”

Goodman had consistently tipped Ipswich, who had been in the race for promotion over the course of the season, to fall away as the campaign wore on.

He also said ‘Ipswich’s defensive record is a bit shocking for a team going for automatic promotion’ and said only Leicester and Leeds were ‘solid and effective in both boxes’.
