CBS Sports has egregious ranking of Giants QB Daniel Jones

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is a polarizing player even outside of the fanbase as he enters his sixth season in the NFL.

Coming off a torn ACL and an embattled career since being the No. 6 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, there are a lot of questions surrounding Jones’ future as a starter beyond the 2024 season.

However, things got a bit extreme in the first set of quarterback power rankings from CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin, who egregiously had Jones ranked as the No. 32 quarterback in the NFL.

The Giants reportedly dabbled with replacing their rehabbing investment, whose ball-security issues returned behind a porous line in 2023. Perhaps Malik Nabers can restore his fortunes.

Having doubts about Jones as a capable starter is one thing. There certainly are valid questions at this point of his career, especially with ball security.

But to have Jones ranked behind four rookies, Jacoby Brissett and Bryce Young seems to be a bit of an overreaction to a 2023 that was lost on all fronts by the Giants.

Just two seasons ago, Jones completed 67.2% of his passes for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions while adding 120 carries for 708 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Those aren’t elite numbers, but they are far from the No. 32 quarterback in the NFL.

Jones is far from a perfect quarterback, and he may not even be with the Giants following the 2024 season, but to have him ranked as the worst starting quarterback in the NFL is still an extreme take.
