Newcastle 1 Brighton 1 – Instant Newcastle fan / writer reaction

Newcastle 1 Brighton 1 – Saturday 11 May 3pm

Instant fan / writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.

Nat Seaton:

‘We didn’t manage to do enough today to beat a team that proved a more difficult opponent than both Sheffield United and Burnley.

Still got the two games to go, so all is not lost.

Makes the game against Man United all the more vital and let’s hope Arsenal can to us a favour tomorrow…

I won’t be letting today define our season at home.

We had some amazing days/nights with PSG being the stand out atmosphere and result.

On to Old Trafford where I hope to see us win for a second time this season!!’

Dean Wilkins:

‘Sometimes you just have to give credit to the opposition.

This was one of those days.

Mirroring Eddie Howe’s season, Roberto De Zerbi had something like double figures missing, in terms of unavailable players.

Yet he still came to play his usual brave brand of football and almost pulled off the win.

Newcastle didn’t deserve to lose but had found it difficult to break Brighton down.

Then when they did do so, wrong decisions on passing and shooting, as well as fine margins, went against them.

I am pretty sure today was our first home match, certainly in the second half of the season, when the sun has shone so brighty.

Maybe they are more used to it down on the south coast…’

Tony Mallabar:

‘A long season comes to an end on the home front, with a tepid 1-1 draw.

For me the 90 mins totally encapsulated modern football.

Brighton go 1 up and spend the rest of the half time wasting.

Which was a bit silly since they were the better team.

With the second half all to play for, we huffed and puffed with the only highlights a dive each from Skippy and Miggy.

Nowadays there are more cameras inside football grounds to have wiped out this tiresome cheating.’

David Punton:

‘A somewhat frustrating final home game of the season as we have to settle for a point.

That could maybe ultimately cost us European football.

We have to keep going though and maybe Howe will consider recalls for Pope and Joelinton.

Two huge games to come.’

Bazoox:

‘Thought we would have won today but that’s the way it goes sometimes, so I’m not too disappointed in the end.

Brighton and De Zerbi can be hard nuts to crack.

Still three points ahead of the Septics with a much superior goal difference.

No panic required bonnie lads and lasses and there’s two games to go.

The two busted flushes that are Chelsea and Man U won’t finish above the Mighty Mags.’

Billy Miller:

‘Still in our hands but with the last pair of games away from home, we could have done with a final victory at St James’.

Chelsea and Man Utd have got to win just to be level with us, so let’s see how the rest of the weekend pans out.

I don’t reckon either team is going to win all three of their final matches but that match at Old Trafford has just become bigger than ever.

Disappointed but not distraught.’
