Mikel Arteta reveals moment Arsenal lost Premier League title
Mikel Arteta has named Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa last month as the moment they lost the Premier League title race.
The Gunners fought until the final day of the campaign to try and and prevent City from claiming their fourth successive title. Arsenal secured a win over Everton on the final matchday but the three points weren’t enough to guarantee silverware after City’s win over West Ham left them two points ahead.
Despite missing out on the title, Gunners boss Arteta remained proud of his side, claiming that they ‘pushed every limit’. He also reflected on the season, highlighting the moment the title slipped out of their reach.
“For sure Villa at home,” he named as the turning point. “In the first half it should have been 4-0. For what happened on Tuesday [Man City’s 2-0 win over Tottenham], maybe it could have been as well. These are the margins.

“The staff and players have pushed every limit and every margin that we could to win the Premier League. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough.
“Congrats to City. It’s unbelievable what they’ve done since December. Every performance has been at the highest we’ve ever seen and still it wasn’t enough.”
Arteta also made sure to address fans before leaving the pitch.
“I think now it’s time to have a break, think, reflect,” he told fans in attendance. “Please keep pushing and inspiring this team. Don’t be satisfied because we want much more than that. Thank you so much.
“We’re gonna come back even stronger, even more hungry. We’re gonna push to do it and win everything.”
