Following Monday’s rest day at the 2024 Giro d’Italia, the dominant general classification leader Tadej Pogacar will look to again make his mark on what will be a key Stage 16. The Stage 15 epic, won superbly by Pogacar, was followed by a day of rest – but now the race kicks back into gear. After the latest rest day at this year’s Giro d’Italia, it is now time for Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) to surely once again make a strong statement on Tuesday’s intriguing Stage 16.
While heavy snow has seen the Stelvio summit wiped from the route, the peloton still tackle most of the mythical climb before turning onto the Umbrailpass, which still has Cima Coppi status at 2,498m. And to make things more spicy, rain and snow are forecast.
Pogacar continues to lead the way in the general classification, and by some considerable distance after his thrilling and quite incredible triumph on Sunday’s mammoth Stage 15 in which he stormed to an unbelievable victory.
For Tuesday’s fascinating day of racing, the riders will have to negotiate the 206km route from Livigno to Santa Cristina Valgardena (Monte Pana) – will the 25-year-old be able to produce his magic yet again?

Watch Stage 16 of the 2024 Giro d’Italia on Tuesday, May 21 from 10:00 UK time on Eurosport 1, while you can watch ad-free on discovery+.
The UK coverage will be bookended by The Breakaway, presented by Orla Chennaoui, who has a string of esteemed guests joining her across the three weeks.
Usual suspects Dan Lloyd, Adam Blythe and 12-time Giro stage winner Robbie McEwen will return, with former Jumbo-Visma star Nathan van Hooydonck swooping in for the final week as Blythe (Stages 16-21) resumes his duties on the motorbike in Italy, bringing fans closer to the action.
