As the season drew to a close, French media reported that Mothiba, 28, will become a free agent after spending six years with Racing Strasbourg, which included a loan spell at Troyes.
This comes after the striker ended yet another injury-plagued season in France, where he scored three goals in 15 appearances for Patrick Vieira’s side this season.
Now with Mothiba set to become a free agent in June, he could be the perfect fit for DStv Premiership champions, Sundowns.
The Brazilians lifted their 14th league title and seventh consecutive gong over the weekend, and managed to lift the inaugural African Champions League this season, but the revered CAF Champions League trophy remains the main prize as they have now entered their eighth year without lifting the trophy.

In January this year, the Siya crew reported that Sundowns were looking for a South African striker with a proven pedigree, to add much needed firepower to their attacking line.
The likes of Percy Tau, Fagrie Lakay, Khanyisa Mayo, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Lars Weldwijk were considered as options – but to no avail. The reason Sundowns were linked to a South African forward is that they needed to bring down their foreign quota and that resulted in many transfer reports which expected Mayo to be their preferred choice at the beginning of this season.
Mothiba could provide Sundowns with an alternative option with his makeup perfectly suited for the rigorous continental game.
Strong in his hold-up play and lethal in the air, the former Diambars man could do with a revitalizing of his career, with Sundowns the perfect place to do that if he can overcome his injury woes. The other factor making the Brazilians an option for Mothiba is affordability, as Sundowns are arguably the only PSL club that can compete with European teams when it comes to signing certain players.
For over a decade, Sundowns have been the strongest in the transfer market and their position will be even stronger with their prize money gained in the African Football League and then the upcoming 2025 Fifa Club World Cup.
