What to Watch the Week of June 2: Summer House: The Reunion on Bravo, and Queenie on Hulu

Calling all Summer House fans, as the reunion kicks off this week (part one airs Thursday, June 6, and part two concludes on Thursday, June 13; both stream on Peacock the next day). The reality series, set in Montauk, New York, has always been a fan favorite, but this season—its eighth—is on pace to be the most watched in franchise history.

We’ve covered Summer House for years (including features with Lindsey Hubbard, Jordan Emanuel, Amanda Butula, and more) so no doubt many of the Glamour staff will be watching this Thursday. In the first installment of the reunion, Ciara and West will open up about what happened between them after the cameras went down, while Paige will make a shocking revelation about her friendship with Lindsay.

Then, in next week’s episode, expect more with Ciara and West as they reveal what lies ahead, while Amanda makes an emotional revelation about her health. And let’s not forget about Lindsay and Carl, who will detail everything that went down between them.

But it’s not all reality TV this week, as Queenie premieres on Hulu. The trailer has amassed over seven million views since it debuted a month ago, and Glamour’s special projects editor Ru Wolle said it was so addicting that she watched the entire series in one sitting. (In case you haven’t read the best-selling book the series is based on, it’s about Queenie Jenkins, a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman living in south London, who isn’t sure where she fits in.) Meanwhile, on the documentary front, Lifetime will premiere its docuseries on Gypsy Rose Blanchard, while Paramount+ chronicles superstar Cyndi Lauper’s iconic music career. Then, in new film releases, Richard Gere is back on the big screen in the chilling drama Longing, while Dakota Johnson stars in the LGBTQIA+ movie Am I Ok?, on Max.

Finally, there’s Hit Man, which arrives on Netflix this Friday, and stars Glen Powell and Adria Arjona. Powell has never been better, and relishes the challenge of inhabiting different personalities as a fake hit man who tries to catch would-be citizens who want to knock off their enemies. And what’s crazier is the film is somewhat based on a true story.

Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up (Lifetime): In this new eight episode docuseries, cameras follow Gypsy as she experiences life as a free woman, including reconnecting with family and finally living with her now soon-to-be-ex-husband Ryan Anderson for the first time. 9 p.m. ET/PT

Tuesday, June 4Let the Canary Sing (Paramount+): The new documentary chronicles icon Cyndi Lauper’s rise to stardom and the profound impact she’s had on generations through her music, ever-evolving punk style, unwavering feminism, and tireless advocacy. Streaming

FX’s Clipped (Hulu): Based on the ESPN 30 for 30 podcast, The Sterling Affairs, this six-episode limited series charts the collision between a dysfunctional basketball organization and even less functional marriage. Per the press release, “Famed coach Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne) arrives as coach of the LA Clippers in 2013. With a promising roster of big personalities, Rivers has the building blocks to win the franchise’s first championship. The team’s owner, Donald Sterling (Ed O’Neill), is a well-known problem: He’s cheap, he’s erratic, he’s a bully. But minimizing Sterling’s influence to win a title becomes a personal quest for Doc. Meanwhile, a courtside power struggle escalates between Sterling’s ambitious personal assistant V. Stiviano (Cleopatra Coleman) and his wife and business partner of 60 years, Shelly (Jacki Weaver). Clipped is an Obama-era story of racial reckoning delivered via meme, in which V. and the Sterlings discover who really has the power in the internet age, and which leaves Rivers and his players wondering if the expulsion of one bad apple brings about the transformative change the media wants to celebrate.” Two episodes streaming at launch, followed by new episodes each Tuesday

But when Jane announces she’s moving to London, Lucy reveals a long-held secret. As Jane tries to help Lucy, their friendship is thrown into chaos. Streaming

Friday, June 7Queenie (Hulu): Onyx Collective’s new eight-part drama series is based on the best-selling novel by Candice Carty-Williams and features Queenie Jenkins, a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman living in south London, who is straddling two cultures and slotting neatly into neither. After a messy breakup with her long-term boyfriend, Queenie seeks comfort in all the wrong places and begins to realize she has to face the past head-on before she can rebuild. Seen from the lens of Queenie, the series explores themes including Black womanhood, racial microaggression, and generational trauma. Dionne Brown plays Queenie, Samuel Adewunmi stars as Frank, and Bellah plays Kyazike. All episodes streaming

Longing (Lionsgate/Grindstone): Billed as a “twisty drama,” Longing stars Richard Gere and Diane Kruger and is an English-remake of the 2017 film by Savi Gabizon, it’s original director. Here’s the synopsis: Daniel Bloch (Gere) is shocked to discover a startling secret from his past and is immediately consumed by the extraordinary twists of a new life he never could have imagined. With each new encounter, Daniel uncovers a deeper layer of this fascinating mystery until he arrives at a crossroad in his own life. Kruger plays Alice, the favorite teacher of Gere’s son, which we learn was may more complicated than Daniel had any idea. Glamour has an exclusive clip from the film, which you can see below. In theaters

Hit Man (Netflix): Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater directs the dark romantic comedy about a straight-laced professor Gary Johnson (Glen Powell), who moonlights as a fake hit man for the New Orleans Police Department. Preternaturally gifted at inhabiting different guises and personalities to catch hapless people hoping to bump off their enemies, Gary descends into morally dubious territory when he finds himself attracted to one of those potential criminals, a beautiful young woman named Madison (Adria Arjona). When Madison falls for one of Gary’s hit man personas—the mysteriously sexy Ron—their steamy affair sets off a chain reaction of play acting, deception, and escalating stakes. Linklater and Powell co-wrote the film.

Power Book II: Ghost (Starz): Season 4A (of the final season) begins today, as new alliances have been formed with each faction and Tariq and Brayden must find a way back into the game. Here’s the official synopsis: While Brayden starts flirting with a new, reckless lifestyle, leaving Tariq to wonder if there really is room for two at the top. With Monet left for dead, Davis facing potential disbarment, and Effie looking to secure her future at Stanford, everyone’s on their own. Diana and Dru continue to question their roles while Cane levels up and starts working with Noma, who is fighting to establish her business in the States and keep her daughter Anya in line, who finds her way on Tariq and Brayden’s radar. With the fate of his future in the game and his family at the forefront, Tariq must reconcile his past to rise to the top of the food chain and become who he needs to be to protect those he loves most.
