Rumours linking Orlando Pirates attacker Relebohile Mofokeng with Scottish giants Rangers have continued to intensify after an overseas-based scout revealed the Gers’ alleged plans for the teenager.

Mofokeng has been regarded as one of the brightest youngsters to rise to the South African football scene in recent times and testament to that is his nomination among the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season nominees, along with the SuperSport United duo of Shandre Campbell and Ime Okon.

The 19-year-old endeared himself more to the Pirates supporters after scoring a stoppage time winning goal in the Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Buccaneers’ academy graduate has also finally earned himself a Bafana Bafana call-up, after head coach Hugo Broos included the teenager in his squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

In spite of only one season in the top flight under his belt, Mofokeng has been strongly linked with a move overseas in the winter and Rangers have appeared as strong suitors after well known scout Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout revealed the alleged intentions of the Gers in pursuit of the Sharpeville native.

“Do not expect him [Mofokeng] to make a difference during the first season, it’s rather a project for Rangers, it’s a project let’s say for the next three years,” Kulig told the Rangers Review Podcast.

“So the first season could be slightly difficult because he needs to adjust to European football, to Scottish football but it’s a promising signing for Rangers [if it happens].

“For Rangers, it’s a project for the future, the first season should be about preparation for the next one and if everything goes well, he fulfils his potential, I think he [Mofokeng] will give a lot of joy to the fans and will give a lot of joy to the accountant in a few years,” Kulig added.

Mofokeng is also linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers after undergoing an assessment with the English Premier League club early in the 2023/24 season.
