Queen Camilla Once Again Proves She’s Comedy Royalty as She Jokes About Stealing One of King Charles’s Jobs

King Charles III better watch out, because Queen Camilla has jokingly planted a seed, setting her sights on one of his patronages. During an engagement on Wednesday, Camilla once again displayed her signature sense of humor, dropping a quip about a royal duty she’d love to take over from her husband.

Camilla visited London’s Garden Museum to take in the new “Gardening Bohemia: Bloomsbury Women Outdoors” exhibit, which celebrates the lives and gardens of writer Virginia Woolf, her sister artist Vanessa Bell, photographer Lady Ottoline Morrell, and writer Vita Sackville-West. Charles is the official royal patron of the Garden Museum, but Camilla, as she said in impromptu remarks, is a fan.

“I don’t know how many visits I’ve paid here—quite a lot. I know my husband’s patron but I might have to nudge him, I’d quite like to take that one away from him,” she said, and was greeted with laughs.

“It’s such a special place that every time I’m asked, I just have to come back again,” she said. “I think this wonderful exhibition celebrating women in gardening is so important.”

Charles is currently receiving treatment for cancer, a diagnosis he shared with the public earlier this year. He has returned to his official public-facing duties on a somewhat lightened schedule on advice from his medical team, and Camilla has made several teasing comments about her husband’s unwillingness to slow down.

At an event over the weekend, Camilla joked to a fellow attendee that Charles is “doing fine” but “won’t slow down and won’t do what he’s told.” At a May royal garden party, too, Camilla delivered a sly update, saying that her husband is “getting better…Well, he would be if he behaved himself.”
