Luka Dončić and the Dallas Mavericks will need to make history to overcome a 3-0 deficit against the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, but they made progress with a win in Game 4 on Friday.

After the game, Dončić said he believes he and the Mavericks are up for the task.

“It doesn’t change anything,” Dončić said. “I said at the beginning of this series it’s first to four and we’re going to believe until the end. We’re just going to keep going. I have a big belief in this team that we can do it, so we just got to keep believing.”

Not only did the Mavericks take Game 4 from Boston, but they did it in dominant fashion, beating the Celtics 122-84. The 38-point loss was the biggest in Finals history for the Celtics and their 84 points were the fewest they’ve had in the postseason this year.

It was the kind of win that could turn the series around for Dallas.

Dončić continued what has been a strong showing in the Finals with 29 points, and his co-star Kyrie Irving added 21 points. Irving had a sluggish start in the first two games of the series but has seemed to find some life, and it’s exactly what the Mavericks need from him.

But Dallas is still three games away from winning the title and will need to become the first team ever to overcome a 3-0 deficit in the Finals. Things will get more difficult in Game 5 as the series goes back to Boston, and the Celtics will likely up the intensity after the blowout loss.

Dončić has faith in his team, though, and he and the Mavs will look to turn the series on its head on Monday in Game 5.
