Who Is the Mysterious ‘Ace’ Behind Bryon DeChambeau’s Success at the 2024 U.S. Open?
After an incredibly close final hole, Crushers GC captain Bryson DeChambeau secured his second major title. Congratulations to him! Before this victory, as he was walking towards the final hole, an interesting individual just behind him captured the crowd’s attention. Who is this person, and did they play a pivotal role in the golfer’s victory?
What’s interesting about this guy is that it’s not the first time he’s been spotted near one of the LIV golfers. Enthusiasts have apparently seen him with members of the 4Aces team, led by Dustin Johnson, as well. This came to light after @acaseofthegolf1 shared a clip of the golfer walking towards the final hole on X.
The post captioned “The guy in the Aces hat works for them and according to someone I spoke with goes out each day at LIV events and scouts hole locations for the team. With him being so close to Bryson in this pic I’d assume he played a role with all the LIV guys this week.” Interestingly, despite working for one team in LIV, this guy chose to assist all the LIV golfers including DeChambeau by scouting the holes for them at the US Open. Could it be that Johnson asked him to stay after missing the cut? Perhaps!

Golf tournaments, not just majors, often draw diverse crowds that can get quite close to the action. In such situations, hole scouts play a crucial role in guiding the golfers who are constantly thinking about their next short. Speaking of the crowd, an incident occurred at THE PLAYERS Championship this year, highlighting the importance of crowd control.
What happened during THE PLAYERS Championship? This incident occurred at the 14th hole at TPC Sawgrass this year. As Max Homa took his shot, the ball took an unexpected trajectory and hit a tree. During this moment, the fans were very close to the golfer. Among them, one spectator stood dangerously close, and the ball nearly hit them as it headed directly towards them. Fortunately, no one was injured as the ball hit the tree, as Homa revealed in a later interview.

During the interview, the golfer also mentioned, “I asked them to back up, and they backed up normal 3-4 steps.” However, in this case, those 3-4 steps weren’t enough, as anything could have happened. Such incidents are not uncommon in golf tournaments; however, it is the responsibility of spectators to ensure they maintain a safe distance while watching the game.
Both of the incidents mentioned are not very common, but they aren’t rare either. Do you believe that every golfer should have a hole scout with them? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
