After Arrest, Travis Scott Turns Mug Shot Into T-shirt Design
Thereâs making lemonade out of lemons, and then thereâs Travis Scott, whoâs making T-shirts out of mug shots.
The rapper (born Jacques Bermon Webster II) has released merch featuring his own mug shot just hours after he was arrested in Miami very early Thursday morning on charges of disorderly intoxication and trespassing on a property after a warning after officers allegedly found him on a dock engaged in an argument with someone on a yacht, âyelling at the vessel occupants,â according to an arrest affidavit obtained by People. Police wrote that Scott was told to leave the dock âor he would be arrested.â
âThroughout the long walk from the vessel to the boardwalk,â authorities alleged in the report, â[Scott] walked backwards, yelling obscenities to the occupants of the vessel.â He did allegedly leave the dock, but after five minutes, returned and allegedly caused âa public disturbance.â Police then arrested him and brought him to the Miami Beach Police Department.
Scott âlater admitted that he had been drinking alcohol and stated, âItâs Miami,ââ the report continued.
He was released Thursday on a $650 bond for the two charges after pleading not guilty, and by Friday, Scottâs website featured a $35 black T-shirt emblazoned with Scottâs grinning mug shot and the phrase âItâs Miami.â The product name is listed as the âFree the Rage Tee #2â and the description says that $5 from each sale will go to the Cactus Jack Foundation, Scottâs charitable organization that, according to its website, serves youth by âproviding access to education and creative resources to ensure long term success.â Scott also founded a record label by the same name.
Scottâs attorney, Bradford Cohen, shared a statement, per People, that the incident was âa misunderstanding.â
âMr. Scott was briefly detained due to a misunderstanding,â Cohen said. âThere was absolutely no physical altercation involved, and we thank the authorities for working with us towards a swift and amicable resolution.â
Representatives for Travis Scott did not immediately respond to Vanity Fairâs request for comment.
